Several Blast teams took part in the 2010 Steamboat Mountain Soccer Tournament. Our U12 Girls White team were champions of their division and our U11 Girls White finished runners up in their division. Congratulations to both teams!

Our U16 Boys White team won the gold division at the Rocky Mountain College Showcase tournament this past weekend.  The team won all six games including a thrilling overtime semi-final victory over Loveland.

Other Blast teams also performed well at the tournament. Our U12 boys red team made it all the way to the final, where they were beaten by the top-ranked team in Utah. Overall Blast teams enjoyed some great results inspite of the weather and scheduling issues.

May 5th was our annual College Information Night at the Broomfield Auditorium. This year Jeff managed to get eight coaches from almost all of the major universities in Colorado to attend, including CU, DU, UNC, Regis, Metro, Colorado Christian, and Colorado School of Mines. After a presentation explaining the challenges and opportunities of applying for college, the coaches came on stage to answer questions about pretty much anything from the audience of parents and high school-aged players.

Our U15 boys red team won the gold division of the 2010 Pueblo Sunbelt tournament, with an exciting 1-0 overtime win against Pride Predators. Daniel Salas's header rounded off an excellent weekend for the team. Congratulations boys!

Several other Blast teams also took part in the annual tournament, including the U14 girls white and U11 girls red teams. Both were unable to progress to their respective finals, but gained a lot from the experience of the weekend.

Over the week between Christmas and New Year's Day, several Blast teams took part in the 3rd Annual Westminster Indoor tournament. Our U12 boys (pictured right) won their gold division, beating Storm North (4-2), Edge Select (4-0), and NCSC (7-1) in their pool games, before an exciting final where they again beat Edge, this time in a penalty shootout.

Elsewhere, our U16 girls reached the final of the Elite high school division, which featured a range of top level U15-U17 teams. Our U13, U14, and U15 girls also all reached the final in their age groups.

A total of seven Blast teams made it to the podium in the Colorado Shootout tournament this weekend. Gold medals went to both of our U11 boys teams. The Red team are shown here (left).

The U15 Girls Red (shown on the right) came second in their division, losing 1-0 in the final.

Our U11 Girls White and U12 Boys Red teams are shown in the pictures here. Both won their divisions. The U12 Boys White team also won their division.

Congratulations everyone!

The Broomfield Blast Girls U13 Red Team was crowned champions of the Gold Division at the 2009 Pride of the Rockies Classic Soccer Tournament. The tournament, which took place on August 22 – 23 in Colorado Springs, hosts teams from Colorado and surrounding states.

In the championship game the score was tied after regulation, but the Blast prevailed in overtime with the Broomfield players converting 6 of their 7 penalty kicks in the overtime shootout. This fall the team will compete in the Colorado state league Premier 1 division.

On Sunday, August 30th Blast held their annual club picnic. Free food and drink were provided to all players and parents in the club I didn't sit there counting, but hundreds of people took part, watching the coach game, playing soccer volleyball, and eating a large supply of burgers and sausages from the grill!

Thank you to everyone who helped organize and run the event, and to all of you who helped us eat through the mountain of food!

All Blast teams played in the 5th annual Broomfield Shootout. The tournament included almost 300 teams from U9 up to U18. We had several excellent performances, but the ones who got their photos to me first were the U12 Boys Red team (pictured left).

The Boys we scored 13 goals, while letting in just 2 in the entire tournament. Also along the way they beat two Premier 1 teams. The final went to penalties, with Blast winning 4-2 against Arsenal Gold.

On August 3rd, six players from our current U16 boys and girls teams climbed two 14ers to raise money for Football For All - a charity set up to provide footwear for players in the area who can't afford to play soccer. With them were our two interns - Tom and Will, and club staff.

After a long day, the group planted our club banner on the top of Grays (14,270 ft) and Torreys (14,267 ft) Peaks, raising over $1500. For more information or to donate, please visit www.footballforall.us.

Several Blast teams took part in the 25th anniversary of the Steamboat Mountain Soccer tournament.  Our U11 girls white team won their age group, scoring 15 goals and letting in just one. In the final they beat the Speed Demons from Long Beach, California 1-0.

The U14 girls blue team also won gold at the tournament. The girls played very well going to the final, playing a solid Rush team and winning in PK’s 5-4 after two overtime periods.

The U11 Girls White team recently took part in the annual Rocky Mountain Cup in Boulder County , playing in the gold bracket.  Playing against teams from Longmont , Boulder and Denver South and despite the rain, hail and a tornado warning, our girls played five games, scoring 14 goals and only 4 goals were scored against them!  The girls went to the finals (with a whopping 35 points!) losing 2-1 in the last few minutes of the game.

Congratulations girls!  We look forward to a great season.

On April 29th at Broomfield Commons we have arranged for three Colorado Rapids players to come help us run a special training session. This will be open to all Blast and BSC players. There will be two sessions on the day - 5:00pm-6:00pm for younger players and 6:00-7:00pm for older ones. Blast staff coaches will also be on hand to help facilitate the training. Check out the camps page for more information.

As part of the deal, every attending player also gets a free ticket to watch the Rapids play the Los Angeles Galaxy on April 25th at DSG Park. Ticket cost for the events is $15 per player. Parents wanting to attend the game on the 25th can also buy tickets from us.

Over the doubeheader weekend, our U14 Girls Blue team staged a PCA 'Honor the Game' drive. Players wore special stickers (see the picture) for both games and followed the PCA guidelines of staying positive, supporting their team, and not arguing with referees or other players.

As well as setting a great example to the rest of the club and the soccer community, the approach seemed to work. On Saturday they won 4-0 against Canyon City Blitz, then 3-1 over Colorado United Gold on Sunday. As members of the Positive Coaching Alliance, we hope to set up more events like this in the near future.

At the beginning of the month the U17 Boys White team went down to the Sereno tournament in Arizona. Playing against Sereno FC (State Champions), Flagstaff, and Arizona Fury, the boys showed some real character and determination in winning two and losing one.

Of note, the victory over Flagstaff included a 25 yard left footed goal from Carlos Mendez. While the last game against Fury the team came back from 1-0 at half time to win 2-1.

Our U11 Boys Red team took part in the 2009 Colorado Storm Spring Cup. Playing in the gold bracket, the boys beat both Storm teams, taking first place. The team ended up scoring a total of six goals whilse conceeding only two all weekend. A particularly fine performance came from aptly-named goalie Robert Green, who saved a penalty during the 2-0 win over Storm White.

Congratulations boys! We look forward to seeing more of the same in the regular season.

Kyle and Erin worked with our U16 girls and U14 boys during the fall season. Topics covered have included motivation, relaxation, controling the fear of failure, and setting goals.

The program has proven to be so successful that we are now looking to get a larger number of students involved with more teams in the spring!

Our U12 Girls Black team recently took part in the annual Vail Valley Soccer Tournament. The weather held out and they did not have to deal with inches of snow that were expected. The girls had an opportunity to get in several good games.  They finaled with Real Gold and won with a golden goal in the first minute of overtime.

It was a great time to try a new playing format and the girls brought their knowledge back to league for a successful game against Colorado Fusion.  We are all proud of their effort and camaraderie.

Tournament season is upon us and already we have had some great results. Our U-11 girls Red team closed a successful spring season by winning the 2008 Real Colorado Cup. The team played in wind, rain, sun and more wind, traveling from Dick's to Dove Valley over the long weekend. Six challenging games later they had taken first place!

In the same tournament, our rec program's U10 girls team won in their first tournament playing 11-a-side. We look forward to watching the progress of the girls as they move to Blast over the summer.

As part of our plan to improve the level of coaching provided by the club, we were recently successful in an application for a substantial CYS grant to work with the Positive Coaching Alliance. The program aims to train coaches to become Double-Goal Coaches®, whose first goal is winning, and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports. This closely matches our club philosophy, which you can read on the front page of this website.

The PCA work across most sports and include prominent spokespeople, including Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Ronnie Lott, Dean Smith, and Barry Zito.

For some players there is no such thing as too much soccer. Although the spring season is now officially over, we have created a list of summer camps being offered in the local area. Some of these are run by Blast but the majority are from outside groups. If you are looking for ways to fill up those endless weeks without school, why not check out some of the programs? Although we do not directly endorse any camps run by external groups, we have included all of the ones that have received good feedback from Blast players.

Click here to see the whole list.

Continuing our plan to increase communication within the club, we will now be publishing summarized versions of board meeting minutes on the website. The April minutes can be found here. It is hoped that this will give all members who are unable to attend meetings on a regular basis insight into what is happening at board meetings. summercamps.html

Check back regularly for the next month's installment. Also, all club members are welcome to attend the public part of our monthly board meetings.

Our U12 boys were also finalists after a string of solid performances.

Congratulations to the U14 girls who won the gold bracket in a thrilling penalty shoot-out, and also to the U13 girls who won their gold bracket with a convincing 2-0 victory. Check out the story in the local media.

Over the second weekend in February, the Blast U14 boy's white team took part in the Desert Classic tournament in Phoenix, AZ. The boys made the most of the 80 degree sunshine and green fields, producing a string of quality performances on their way to the final. Of particular note were victories over Xtreme (2-0) and Foothills Elite (3-1).

Faced with a final against an Elite level CCV Stars team from Arizona who had been playing constantly since September; Blast stepped up their game and were unlucky to go down 2-1 in the final minutes of the game.

Our U17 Girls Red team completed a successful trip to Cocoa Beach, Florida over the Christmas break. Competing against teams from around the country the team won all of their preliminary games and the final in an exciting penalty shootout. Going through undefeated in a highly rated College Showcase tournament was an outstanding effort. Congratulations girls or a great season and great tournament!

Six players were also selected to the tournament all-star game and several received invitations from college scouts watching the games.

Several Blast teams were invited to the first annual Westminster AFC indoor soccer tournament over the Christmas break. Our U13 Girls Red team managed to win out in their age group, with some impressive performances and a strong finish in the final. The tournament was very well organized and provided some excellent practice opportunities over the winter break.

Other noteable performances included our U14 boys team narrowly missing out on a place in the final after a good win over their Westminster rivals, and the U12 boys putting together two excellent performances against quality U13 sides from around the local area.

In the same winter indoor tournament, our U11 Girls Red team earned first place in the U11/U12 Girls Gold Division, held in late December.  The girls put on strong performances in all four games they played that day, with the championship game being especially exciting.  After going into a "sudden death" overtime the score remained tied at 1-1, until the shootout where we scored on our first shot and won 2-1.

Congratulations girls and good luck with the upcoming spring season!

The U11 Girls White team recently competed in and won their bracket at the inaugural Colorado Shootout. Back to back 4-0 wins over Bootleggers and Trebol guaranteed them a place in the final against Colorado Rush. What made the final even more exciting was that Blast narrowly lost 0-1 to the same team in the pool stage of the competition the day before. After some inspired coaching and incredible player performance on the field, the team stepped it up to comfortably take the final 4-0.

Congratulations girls, and good luck with the rest of the season!

Over the same weekend our U13 Girls Red team took part in the Vail tournament. With five games over two days in conditions best described as arctic wilderness the girls battled the top teams in the region and the elements to take first place. Averaging three goals per game, the weekend culminated in a strong 2-1 over Real Gold in the final. So motivated were the girls that after the game several asked the coach who they play next!

A special thank you must go to the parents who cheered as a team, and fed the players between games. Congratulations everyone!

Winter is in the air and we have signed up for facility rental at a new indoor soccer center at 94th and Raleigh in Westminster. Boasting a 200x85 ft field, with turf similar to that at the Broomfield Commons Championship Field, the facility should provide an excellent training environment for our teams for the next few months. Sessions will be 4:55-5:55pm Monday-Thursday, with three teams training simultaneously.

Check back soon for the schedule. Season One starts November 12th and runs until January 10th. Season Two starts January 14th and ends March 6th.
